As popular as it is, many consumers are still confused about the different types of gold jewelry. We created a little guide to help you distinguish between solid gold, gold-filled and gold-plated jewelry.
At Possé by Rodonya, we mainly provide gold-filled, sterling silver and stainless steel jewelry as we want your jewels to last as long as possible.🤍
Solid Gold Jewelry is made entirely of gold, inside and out. It’s the most expensive and durable among the other types of fine gold jewelry. Solid gold items can be either 10K, 14K, 18K, or 24K. Karats (K) are percentages of actual gold in the jewelry piece.
Gold-Filled Jewelry is created by adding several layers of solid gold to a core of brass. The resulting thick layer of gold means it's durable and top quality and just a step down from solid gold. It won’t tarnish and it’s much more durable than gold plated jewelry. With minimum care, gold-filled jewelry can last for many years before the gold begins to fade.
Gold-Plated Jewelry: Gold plating is done by applying a minuscule layer of gold over a base metal (usually brass). Gold plated jewelry works perfectly for single-use. Although some designer brands offer gold-plated jewelry for exorbitantly high prices, don’t be fooled - this does not equate to “better quality”.
As for the difference between gold-filled & gold-plated jewelry, the bottom line is that you’re going to pay a little bit more for gold-filled jewelry, but it will stand the test of time, and in our opinion it is well worth it.
We hope this guide helped! ❤️
